Visit the Grottes de Régulus

Located in Meschers-sur-Gironde, about 20 minutes from Camping Paradis Les Pins, the Régulus caves are an original and unforgettable idea for a family visit. These troglodytic dwellings carved into limestone cliffs are cavities dug out naturally over the centuries by a slow process of dissolution.

Did you know?

Like the Matata caves, they are one of Charente-Maritime’s main tourist attractions. These cavities were used as houses in Gallo-Roman times. They were then the refuge of pirates, shipwrecked sailors, wreck raiders and smugglers.

An original and unusual visit just 20 minutes from Camping Paradis Les Pins!

In the 1980s, the Régulus caves were opened to the public. These incredible caves overlooking the Gironde estuary have been designed to welcome visitors without endangering the site. Once inside, you’ll hear thestories of the main characters associated with the caves. You’ll hear about the famous postcard seller La Guicharde, the ship’s captain Régulus and the shipwreckers Belin and Cadet.
