Like the Matata caves, they are one of Charente-Maritime’s main tourist attractions. These cavities were used as houses in Gallo-Roman times. They were then the refuge of pirates, shipwrecked sailors, wreck raiders and smugglers.

Once inside, you’ll hear thestories of the main characters associated with the caves. You’ll hear about the famous postcard seller La Guicharde, the ship’s captain Régulus and the shipwreckers Belin and Cadet.
